A clinic - Helping you heal, not just feel better
A Limited Liability Company

Better Healing (BH) is a Veteran owned clinic and we are concerned about the process that results in your health.
Most in our community do not realize that your health is indeed a process. The process of "You" specifically.
By the time you are experiencing any symptoms, it is time to seek care. Earlier intervention for such symptoms,
typically means a less invasive intervention. Basically, “An ounce of prevention, prevents a pound of cure”. So early is very important.
We work with all conditions but specialize in treating Pain and Chronic Illness.
We provide exceptional clinical care for each person, one at a time,
and specific to the stage of illness you are in to enable choice and dignity. We also bring you Health News and Research in both Western and Eastern
understandings of the body on our website and Facebook.
We treat all illnesses except for Emergency Conditions.
If you are having an emergency, please call 911 to activate Emergency Medical
Services or find the nearest Emergency Department or Hospital.
How we treat is a combination of Acupuncture, Herbs, Exercise, Diet, appropriate Life Coaching, and where possible concurrent care.
We work with all specialties on any given health challenge.

Martin Retherford, BApSc, MBA, MSOM, Dipl. OM, DOM
I am a National Board Certified Physician, specializing in East Asian Medicine (EAM). Licensed in New Mexico as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM).
I work primarily on Pain and Chronic Illness but treat whatever comes. I seek to educate our community about EAM and work with all specialties to
maximize the health benefit to my patients, one person at a time. I am published and I volunteer with UNM's Chronic Pain ECHO. I am a U.S. Veteran with background
in Engineering, Projects, and Management.
Better Healing has been asked a number of questions about East Asian Medicine (EAM) by many in our community. There is a general lack of knowledge
of what EAM is and can do for your health. EAM has been used to treat all illness seen in Humans for greater than 2500 years. In fact, the EAM
Practitioner of a 1000 years ago was the Primary Care Provider of the day. This means it has been used to treat Millions of people in that time.
If you have a specific questions please consult your local EAM Practitioner. We have captured many common questions in our
and this introduction should help as well.
EAM is the umbrella label for the treatment modalities, jargon, and inter-relationships of a system of healthcare that has been utilized for greater
than 2500 years. The modalities included in this label include acupuncture, moxabustion, tuina, cupping, guasha, EAM physical therapy, EAM dietetics,
herbal pharmacopeia, exercise, and Breathing/Qi Gong practices. Please see the FAQ
for definitions of these
EAM, is believed, to have evolved over centuries from the careful observations of people who sought to alleviate illness and suffering in themselves and
others. From centuries of trial and error and careful observation this system comes to us as, perhaps, the safest medical system currently known. It
is also from these centuries of trial and error that this system of medical care becomes a complete system of health care. Meaning it can be used to
treat all illness. This does not include Emergency Medicine.
It should be noted that:
EAM is not a religion.
EAM is not tied to any political system.
It should be further noted that an EAM Specialist is called a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (DOM) in New Mexico. The scope of practice for a DOM is
"all forms of illness." A DOM is educated in Pharmacology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathophysiology, in addition to EAM corpus of knowledge. The
DOM title is granted by the New Mexico State Board of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. To be licensed in the state of New Mexico, National Board
Certification is required. DOM's are recognized as Physicians similar to Medical Doctors (MD) and capable of providing primary care in New Mexico.
What some of the science says abour EAM.
The World Health Organization (WHO) seeks to have EAM in hospitals world wide
by 2023. EAM is a part of the National Health Care Systems of Germany,
France, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Singapore, Vietnam and many other countries.
The WHO recognizes evidence for the use of EAM for the following conditions:
|Evidenced Medical Conditions

||Allergic Rhinitis/Hay Fever
|Dysentry, Acute Bacillary
||Acute/Chronic Epigastralgia, Ulcer, Spasm
